Located in charming Waasmunster, right between Ghent and Antwerp, this location combines accessibility with tranquillity. You can be in the city in just 20 minutes, whilst at the same time enjoying the green Durme Valley and vast fields within walking distance. All daily amenities, from shops to cosy restaurants, are nearby. This is a sought-after area where properties rarely come to market, and certainly not one with the unique character of Villa Zonneweelde.
In the heart of Waasmunster, a major architectural surprise lies hidden behind a discreet wooden gate and hedge: Villa Zonneweelde is a heritage property dating from 1928, which entered a new chapter in 2022 thanks to Contekst architects. Here, the past is not a constraint, but rather a source of inspiration!
The experience begins at the red front door, which offers a foretaste of the interplay of light and colour inside: Villa Zonneweelde certainly lives up to its name. Inside, the terrazzo and the red-lacquered staircase immediately catch the eye as a modern nod to the past. Through a round arch, the kitchen unfolds, a true composition of materials: the stainless steel cooking island almost floats on the reclaimed terrazzo floor, whilst dark green oak and a wire cabinet by Muller Van Severen lend the whole an artistic touch. Thanks to a clever extension, the garden forms an extension of this living space, whilst the passage through an old fireplace towards the conservatory adds a playful touch.
Here, floor-to-ceiling windows bring the horizon indoors, whilst an oak-clad fireplace provides warmth and tranquillity. Raw concrete blends seamlessly with parquet flooring, mouldings and panelled doors: a carefully orchestrated interplay between the raw and the refined.
Upstairs, there are three spacious rooms with high ceilings. Two serve as bedrooms, whilst the third is furnished as an office with bespoke furniture and provides access to the loft via a fixed staircase. The loft is a flexible space full of potential, ranging from a playroom to a master suite. The bathroom combines wood and terrazzo in a timeless balance.
Outside, a Mediterranean garden, designed by Damien Derouaux, completes the picture – adding a touch of Provence to a home that seamlessly combines design, heritage and the joy of living.
Bonus: In the garden, you’ll find an outbuilding, currently used as a practical storage space. There is also a charging point on the driveway, ideal for owners of electric cars.
