This exceptional building, also known as 'the Paradys' or 'the Hofschuer', is a beautifully preserved relic of the former Celle Brothers Monastery in Mechelen. It offers a unique opportunity to live and work at a historic location in the heart of the Great Begijnhof.
Historic Highlights
-Origin: The residential wing was built before 1573. The date '1573' is still visible on a fireplace in one of the rooms.
-Beguinage history: In 1614, the complex was handed over to the Begijnhof, after which the rooms were rented out to the beguines until 1767.
-Authenticity: Because the building was used as a warehouse for a long time, it escaped modern fashion whims. As a result, the 16th and 17th century interiors have been preserved unharmed.
-Restoration: In 1997, the building was carefully restored by architect L. Vermeersch (Bruges) into a stylish home with office space.
-Details: During the restoration, historic window openings were reopened and great care was taken to preserve the highly valuable interior elements from different periods.
